This page records how peoples uses Voyage Linux in production. ====== Dan ====== I'm using Voyage basically unmodified to make a "stompbox" project. Running on ALIX boards. Loved the Voyage installation tool Just Worked, that the kernel was modern, udev was in use, and apt-get worked. Best experience I've ever had with a lightweight linux distribution. ====== Fonterra ====== I severely modified a version of voyage for use in a series of embedded pc's that got deployed in factories around the country (New Zealand). They looked like this: http://www.gefanucembedded.com/products/2191 . They were (at least when I worked there) used to drive radios to send delivery information to milk tankers to pickup milk from farms. My requirements for a Linux distro were a) GPL, b) needed to have an apt backend, c) run on flash, d)be easy to modify, e) stay running, and restart nicely if the plug got pulled out by a factory worker. Voyage met these requirements. Its a good product and is an integral part of the system that picked up 14.34 billion litres of milk in 2006. I should add here that these are my personal comments and do not represent those of Fonterra, my employer at the time. Cheers, David Murrell (david (at) murrell (dot) co (dot) nz ====== Inveneo ====== I wanted to let you guys know what we (Inveneo ) are doing with Voyage. We are a non-profit organization that builds communications networks for remote communities around the world that have no access to electricity and phone lines. Our systems run of batteries that are charged by solar and other types of generators. We establish WiFi links between the various sites and run VoIP (voice over IP) on these links. We use WRAP boards to establish the WiFi links which run a slightly modified Voyage distro on them and use Asterisk to provide the VoIP capabilities. We completed two month ago our first installation in a remote region of western Uganda (in the area of Fort Portal). Access to communication can have a profound impact for these communities and I want to thank all the people who have been working on this software which in return enables us to create these networks. If you're interested have a look at our web site(http://www.inveneo.org), we have as well just today released our code base and detailed instructions how others can build these networks. If I could add one feature to the current distro, it would be a web based configuration interface. If anyone on the list has any pointers to start looking at, please me know and I'd be happy to pinch in with some coding - as much as it is in my abilities. Thanks and take care, Mark [ Added 10 Aug 2005 ] ====== Solid State Linux DNS server for $149.00** ====== I setup Voyage to run as a Master DNS server for my company. I used a nta 6010A, http://www.ntavo.com/ , Thin client. The NTA 6010a is at the end of life. I will write up the instructions for the complete install when the new model arrives. Thank you for your hard work. Voyage made this an easy project. Nicholas A Schembri State College PA, USA [ Added 06 Apr 2004 ]
